Our Staff
Theresa Garbarino-May
Ms. Garbarino-May received her Master’s Degree in Non-Profit Administration from Nova University. She has been the Executive Director of the CASTLE for the past 23 years. In that time, the CASTLE has grown into one of the premier child abuse prevention agencies in the nation, winning national, state and local recognition for its work with families. Ms. Garbarino-May moved to Florida from New York in 1984, and has resided in Port St. Lucie since relocating. She is raising four children, ages 19, 15, 14 and 13; and she remains a tireless advocate for children.
Doug Borrie
Dr. Borrie, the CASTLE’s Assistant Director for 13 years, supervises the CASTLE’s programs. He has a Ph.D. in Community and School Psychology, and brings twenty-five years of experience to the CASTLE working with families. He moved to Florida in 1995 with his wife and children, after being born and raised in New York. Doug provides steadfast leadership for all of CASTLE’s programs and services.
Theresa (Chickie) Cleveland
Ms. Cleveland is the CASTLE’s Human Resource Specialist. She has lived in St. Lucie County since 1983 moving from Palm Beach County where she spent her childhood and young adult years. Ms. Cleveland has brought to the CASTLE her many years of human resource skills, experience and professionalism contributing to the CASTLE’s outstanding staff.
Gundula Hargraves
Ms. Hargraves, originally from Germany, holds a BA in Liberal Arts (SUNY/Fredonia) and an MA in Literature/Linguistics (Indiana University/Bloomington) and comes to us from serving as the Manager of PR/Advertising at Windmoeller & Hoelscher Corporation/Rhode Island prior to moving to Florida in late 2005. She has held the position of Marketing Director at CASTLE since February 2007.
Al Jacks
Al prior to attending college was trained in the classical French culinary arts while working at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville North Carolina. He earned his B.A. in Psychology from Mars Hill College in Western North Carolina. While living in Western North Carolina, Al worked as a teacher for 3 thru 5 year olds in the city of Asheville North Carolina for Head Start. He later transitioned to a social worker position for Head Start and served the children and families in the rural mountains of Western North Carolina for three years. Upon moving to south Florida in 2003, Al worked for the Department of Children and Families in the field of child protective services in Okeechobee County. He later transitioned to community based care in 2004 and was employed with Family Preservation Services and Children’s Home Society, where he continued to serve the children and families of Okeechobee County in the field of dependency case management. Al enjoys the outdoors, fishing Lake Okeechobee, gourmet cooking and international traveling. He also loves to spend time with his family which includes his two long-haired Chihuahua’s.
Jenene McFadden
Mrs. McFadden serves as the CASTLE Program Manager for the Valued Visits Program. She graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a Bachelor Degree in Social Work. Her previous work experience includes employment as Case Manager for the state and Social Services Director for local area long term care nursing facilities. Mrs. McFadden resides in Port St. Lucie with her husband, daughter and son.
Ginny Hooks
Ms. Hooks is the CASTLE’s Program Manager for the Strengthening Families Program. She currently resides in Palm City, FL. She graduated from Valdosta State University in Georgia, majored in Criminal Justice and minored in Sociology. Ms. Hooks’ previous experience includes working as a school resource officer in Vero Beach, and director of youth services for a crisis intervention center in Beaufort, South Carolina.
Nancy Landry
Ms. Landry, who has a BS degree from Springfield College, worked as an adult education instructor for 7 years at the Adult Education in Norwich, CT and served as head GED instructor at a large library program. Following her move to FL, she was involved in teaching at homeless and treatment centers. Additional employment includes teaching at a nursery school and case management at the Broward Partnership for the Homeless in Ft. Lauderdale. At CASTLE, Ms. Landry oversees the Families First program, Positive Parenting, Co-Parenting and High Hopes for Kids program.
Harriet Ostertag
Ms. Ostertag, who holds an MA in Human Service, from Liberty University in Lynchburg VA, a Bachelors Degree in Behavioral Studies, and an AS Degree in Human Services, was employed with CASTLE from May 2000 through November 2001as a Program Specialist. Following a seven-month tenure with Family Preservation Services of FL, she returned to CASTLE as a Counselor, and was recently promoted to the position of Program Manager for the newly established CASTLE program Strong Fathers/Strong Families.
Georgette Beck
Mrs. Beck has recently joined the CASTLE team as the Development Associate for St. Lucie County. She received her BA in Education from Florida Atlantic University. Mrs. Beck relocated from CT in 1997 where she worked for the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies. Her background includes working as an Insurance Agent, Sales and Marketing representative, and an Elementary Educator. She resides in St. Lucie County with her husband and two daughters.
